Course outline

As a QUT Bachelor of Data Science graduate, you’ll be equipped to develop, deliver and communicate ethical data science solutions to complex, real-world problems. You’ll demonstrate broad, coherent knowledge across statistics, computer science and information systems, with the option to major in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Data and Decision Analytics, or Business Data Science. Your training will include statistical, computational, modelling, data management, programming and generative AI techniques to extract insights from data.

Critical thinking and problem solving will enable you to adapt your skills to new contexts. With data science embedded across industries—finance, engineering, health, sports, environment and defence—you’ll work independently and collaboratively in diverse teams. You’ll communicate data, problems, solutions and impacts effectively to expert and non-expert audiences.

You’ll understand social and ethical frameworks in data science, including Indigenous perspectives on data use. Through authentic assessments and work-integrated learning, you’ll build a portfolio showcasing your professional capabilities. You’ll graduate job-ready, with industry-relevant skills and the ability to grow through ongoing professional development.
