A common first year of study provides a broad skills base for students to develop sound theoretical knowledge and gain practical experiences. Engineering design, communication and project management are central to the course. Students undertake a full-year thesis in the final year, completing a significant research project. After successfully completing the first two years of the Bachelor of Engineering at the Cairns campus, students can transfer to the Australian Maritime College, University of Tasmania, to complete the Bachelor of Maritime Engineering (Specialisation) (Honours) degree on-campus in Launceston, Tasmania. Transferring students can select from Naval Architecture or Ocean Engineering specialisations in the Bachelor of Maritime Engineering (Specialisation) (Honours) degree.
