Students gain the knowledge and skills needed to become para-veterinary healthcare specialists. They study basic sciences, including chemistry, biochemistry, and mathematics. They also develop animal handling and care skills. Students learn about animal welfare and behaviour, applied and clinical nutrition, disease processes, and diagnostic techniques. They study the health of both small and large animals, along with therapeutics, surgical and medical nursing, and veterinary practice management.Through practical sessions, clinical rotations, and industry placements, students build strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and self-directed learning skills. Students will access world-class animal health facilities at UQ’s Gatton campus to experience all aspects of small and large animal care. Graduates find supervisory and management roles in a range of animal-related fields. Students may gain additional skills by concurrently enrolling in the Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing (ACM40418) or the Farm Ready Program with UQ Skills (RTO: #1511).
