Students will gain the specialised skills and knowledge needed to start a career in personal training. In addition to learning specialised skills and knowledge to instruct personal training programs, group personal training, and exercise for older clients, students may also learn the fundamentals of operating their own small personal training business.

Completion of Year 12 or attained Year 12 leaving age; Prior study
To be eligible for and offer in this course, applicants must have successfully completed the following units of competency or their equivalent :
– HLTAID011 Provide First Aid (or a unit that supersedes this unit);
– HLTWHS001 Participate in workplace health and safety;
– SISFFIT032 Complete pre-exercise screening and service orientation;
– SISFFIT033 Complete client fitness assessments;
– SISFFIT035 Plan group exercise sessions;
– SISFFIT036 Instruct group exercise sessions;
– SISFFIT040 Develop and instruct gym-based exercise programs for individual clients;
– SISFFIT047 Use anatomy and physiology knowledge to support safe and effective exercise; and
– SISFFIT052 Provide healthy eating information.
Applicants who hold SIS30315 Certificate III in Fitness, will need to have completed the two group exercise elective units SISFFIT007 and SISFFIT011 to meet the entry requirements for this qualification. If your qualification does not contain these units, you will need to complete the following two units prior to enrolling in the Certificate IV program: SISFFIT035 and SISFFIT036.
Skills Check
Students will be invited to complete a Skills Check after receiving an offer, before enrolling into studies. This helps students ensure the course is right for them and allows TAFE Queensland to understand students’ current abilities in English, Maths, as well as using digital technology.
The recommended benchmark levels for this course are 4 in English, 4 in Maths and 4 in Digital Technology.
If you are applying for a VET Student Loan the required levels to meet academic eligibility, as outlined by Commonwealth guidelines, is Level 4 English and Maths.
