For complex issues such as global climate change, food production, tourism, oil, gas and mineral extraction, and waste management, the need for highly trained and specialised marine science professionals continues to grow, making this a desirable field of study. In the higher education diploma year, students develop fundamental academic skills and cement their knowledge in core concepts required for a career in science. Students gain the expertise necessary to manage the increasingly complex issues facing marine systems and ensure that marine industries prosper sustainably. On successful completion, students’ progress into 2nd year of the Bachelor of Marine Science with credit. This degree has a strong practical focus, with students learning through hands-on field-based projects that take advantage of the university’s Gold Coast location.
