Course outline

The Undergraduate Certificate (Nursing) provides you with foundational knowledge and skills related to the broad field of healthcare with a focus on nursing. Covering both practical and theoretical realms, in this course you will learn about: law and ethics as related to healthcare; anatomy and physiology of the human body; person-centred care and partnerships in nursing practice; and the key attributes of the registered nurse in contemporary practice. You will learn in a highly supportive environment and have access to a suite of services designed to help achieve your study goals and advance your career.

Upon successful completion of the Diploma, you will be able to articulate into the Bachelor of Nursing with 48 credit points of advanced standing. As a graduate of the Bachelor of Nursing, you are highly-skilled nurse with an understanding of contemporary nursing practice and innovative nursing care. Course content focuses on the importance of patient-centred care and nursing practice that is culturally safe, evidence based, and respectful. You have the opportunity to undertake up to 840 hours of professional placement (with a minimum of 800hrs required for registration) undertaken in block periods. Placements are available in public and private hospitals and community centres in Brisbane and regional and rural Queensland.

Combined diploma/degrees

Upon completion of the undergraduate certificate component, you will be automatically offered a place in the Bachelor of Nursing. Each of your undergraduate certificate units will be credited to the degree.

Prerequisites

Applicant must be 16; Completion of Year 12 or attained age 18 years

Additional entry requirements

You must have attended and satisfactorily completed at least 6 years of primary and secondary education taught and assessed solely in English. At least two years of this education must have been between grades 7 and 12. This education must have been completed in one of the following countries; Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom, United States of America. If you have not met these educational requirements, you are required to provide evidence of an acceptable English Language test.
