This degree is designed to equip you with the complex skills you’ll need for a successful career conceptualising and creating the next wave of games and virtual worlds. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams with a wide range of skills to create productions to commercial standards. Engage with industry practitioners and gain hands-on experience with games production. You’ll be taught by some of the country’s leading designers as well as guest lectures and master classes. You’ll choose a specialisation, while also having the freedom to explore contemporary developments in the practice of interactive game design and related disciplines. Gain insights into global screen industry landscapes and audiences and have the opportunity to collaborate with creatives across our Brisbane City (South Bank) campus. Griffith University is an official Unreal academic partner. The Unreal Engine is a powerful game engine widely used for developing video games and is known for its high-fidelity graphics, real-time 3D visualization, virtual production, and simulation capabilities. Griffith University
Griffith University will commence making offers on 21 November 2025, and continue to make offers to applicants via both portfolio and ATAR/Rank in subsequent offer rounds. However, applicants are encouraged to submit a portfolio even if confident they will meet the ATAR/Rank Guarantee.

Important offer advice: Should you receive an offer into this program you will be required to enrol into classes* within a short timeframe. This information will be included in your Starting@Griffith email and expressed in the number of days from the day of issue of your email and is in line with the offer response date in your QTAC offer email. Please note that the number of days can vary depending on when the offer was made. This requirement applies irrespective of whether you accepted conditionally or unconditionally. If you do not enrol* into at least one class for your program by 5pm on the response day your offer will lapse. Portfolio admission
Trimester 1 – applications and portfolios must be submitted by 31 October 2025. Applicants will still be able to apply after this date and be considered for ATAR/Rank admission.
Trimester 2 – applications and portfolios must be submitted by 15 May 2026.
Applicants who apply after these dates may be considered should places still be available. Late applicants should refer to the Portfolio Admission website.
Applications are via ATAR/Rank. An optional portfolio admission pathway is also available for applicants who wish to instead demonstrate creative capability.

Guaranteed Admission Schemes do not apply to this program.

You may find work in: mining and medical simulation, training and educational software development, or form your own independent game development studio. You’ll be prepared to work as a prop, environment, character or technical artist; gameplay, level, system or combat designer; gameplay programmer; 3D modeller; 2D or 3D animator; or a motion capture animator.
